A WORD REGARDING WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ

The following pages are a replication of a "booklet" compiled by Eugene Barton which contained both his writings and sketches made during his time in Service Company, 508th PIR.  "Gene", also known as "Tex" due to his home state, took on the role of roving reporter and sent a number of reports and sketches so that the folks in Brownsville might share what he, and perhaps their sons, were experiencing in these foreign locales.

Most of the text are his "letters" home which actually were news reports sent to a local Brownsville, Texas newspaper.  You will note that many of these pages conclude with "---30---" which seems to have been the same as "---End---" in the news reporter industry.

All pages have been reproduced, as much as possible, to resemble the sheets as he originally created them.  One unfortunate exception is the poor quality of the many photographs as the copy we received was the "copy of a copy of a copy...", etc.

Nonetheless, we feel that you will enjoy reading Gene's work.

NOTE: Mr. Barton died in Brownsville, TX on April, 13, 1999 at the age of 77.
