Award of The Silver Star Medal

 

LAWRENCE G. FITZPATRICK, 13084814, Corporal, 508TH Parachute
Infantry..  For gallantry in action on 19 September 1944 near TUEFELS-
BERG, GERMANY.  During the assault on a hill objective, Corporal
FITZPATRICK led off, carrying a light machine gun and firing from
the hip.  He killed approximately fifteen Germans before reaching the
crest and killed approximately twenty more while continuing his
attack against the fleeing enemy.  His inspiring courage throughout
the attack and the reorganization and defense of this key position
was outstanding.  His initiative and leadership contributed material-
ly to the success of the action and reflect high credit on the
Airborne Forces of the U.S. Army.
