General Omar N. Bradley then Major General Bradley took command of the 82nd when it was reactivated on March 25, 1942, at Camp Claiborne, LA. Upon promotion to Lt. General, Bradley was succeeded by Maj. Gen. Matthew B. Ridgeway.
Ridgeway in turn ultimately nominated Brig. Gen. James M. Gavin as his successor
