BASTOGNE, BELGIUM - BASTOGNE MEMORIAL


Bastogne Memorial & Museum
The memorial, at lower right, is gargantuan and was the site of a stirring dedication during our visit.

The shape of the memorial can be seen on the top-left frame. Separate worship areas are provided for Catholic, Protestant and Jewish services

State Flags
The flags of all U.S. States were on display atop the memorial

Names of U.S. States and  Army Units Inscriptions
Every major organization as well as all U.S. States and Territories are carved in the monument. Incredibly, men from each of those locations were lost in Belgium.

Irish Balladeer
Michael Egan, sang a song about the memorial called “The Columns of Grey”.  He had composed the ballad especially for this event

Choir and Guards
While inspirational hymns were sung, both Color and Armed guards were noticeably present

Commemorative Medals
were awarded to each veteran in attendance.  These medals were struck especially for the occasion.  The practice contained time and again at other locations on the tour.
