MALMADY, BELGIUM - MASSACRE MEMORIAL

On 17 December 1944, at this small road junction, some 42 Americans were captured and then shot.  The Germans responsible for the "Malmady Massacre" as it became known were tried at the Nuremberg Trials.
The event has been the topic of at least two movies.  Saints and Soldiers
[2003] is touted as an action packed story based on the historical event .  The Snow Field earned the Best Director award for Peter Coston.  Its primary theme was of faith contending with fear in the face of total war.
