"Old Blood and Guts"
Usually seen sporting his famed pearl-handled revolvers, George S. Patton ]1885-1945)], although recognized as one of the most outstanding generals of his time,  was a controversial figure.  Ironically, he was the victim of a motor vehicle accident after the war ended. He is buried in the American Cemetery and Memorial in Hamm, Luxembourg.  (Biography)

NUTS!!
General Anthony Clement McAuliffe [1878-1975], parachuted into Normandy on D-Day as Commander of the 101st ABN Division Artillery and rode a glider in Operation Market Garden, Sept. 1944.
While 101st ABN's acting Commander in Bastogne, Belgium the Division was surrounded and the Germans demanded they surrender.  McAuliffe sent back a one-word reply "NUTS." in what  probably became the most famous quote of WW-II.
