NORMANDY- POINTE DU HOC

Above And Below
ground emplacements were scattered all about this area

Well Preserved
gun emplacement stands in mute testimony to the strength with which it was built

Deflector Steps
built into sides of the gun emplacement opening were to stop bullets rather than deflect them inside..

Interior View
shows this weapon site went unscathed despite the heavy bombing by U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Navy shelling

Darl Dicks
gives an impromptu presentation of how the guns were positioned, loaded and fired

Munitions and Men
were stored in this below ground bunker and barracks complex that escaped any significant damage

Not All Escaped
the murderous onslaught of bombs and shellfire.  This complex was reduced to blocks of rubble

Obliterated
This emplacement must have taken a direct hit.  Its remains resemble a child's scattered blocks.  Reinforcement steel bars, although rusty, survive 60 years after the fact..
