Zane Schlemmer at Baupte church he used as a mortar OP on June 12, 1944.
"Two other guys and I were up there in the belfry", he said, "You have
heard of bats in the belfry, that was what was there, bats and guano. I
knocked out the wooden louvers on 2 sides to get a good view and to
also let the bats out. We didn't see too much activity-wise while there,
but right after that we went east of town and met up with the guys from
the 101st." |
