BANQUET  (4)

Billy McClure
inspects one of the decals handed out to all banquet attendes

Commemorative Decal
started life as a pin designed by Tom Porcella (H Company)

DECAL DESIGN NOTES

Originally designed as a pin, creator Tom Porcella (H Company) incorporated specific symbolism to commemorate the key events of the 508th's Normandy experience.

The black background is for the darkness of the night

The white parachute signifies the innocence of the untried paratroopers

The gold star is symbolic of the supreme sacrifice

Ste. Mere Eglise, Picauville, Chef du Pont, Le Port Filiolet, and Caponet are villages where important battles were fought that will be forever remembered in history

Tom wrote:

"Le Port Filiolet is where I landed on D-Day. The field was completely flooded. Mr. Ernest La Gueste told me he went out in a row boat and picked up the bodies of many, many troopers!

Please show the meaning of the decal to the new [and old] members at the meeting. Thanks,"

Tom

MAY WE NEVER FORGET THE PARATROOPERS WHO WERE LAID TO REST IN NORMANDY
