Destroyer USS Laffey (DD-724)

The
Ship That Wouldn't Die
the Laffey served in Normandy on D-Day before being redeployed
to the Pacific. On 16 April 1945 she was badly damaged by four
bombs, six kamikaze crashes, and strafing fire yet remained
afloat.
She was decommissioned on 30 June 1947 but was put back intro
service on 26 January 1951. On 9 March 1975 the Laffey was the
last of the Sumner class destroyers to be decommissioned. |
