WILLIAM C. ANDERSON, JR. 32482997,
Technician Fifth Grade, 508th Parachute
Infantry . For heroic conduct in action on 17
September 1944 in **** HOLLAND. Technician Fifth
Grade ANDERSON, Medical Aid Man, was attached
to Company “G”. During an attack to secure the
highway bridge in ***, one man was hit by enemy
fire. Technician Fifth Grade ANDERSON left a
position of cover and moved to the assistance
of the fallen soldier, rendering first-aid despite
continuing artillery and mortar fire. While
he was attempting to evacuee his patient, Technician
Fifth Grade ANDERSON was seriously wounded by
a near hit which caused the loss of his arm.
His unselfish action saved the life of the wounded
soldier at great cost to himself. Entered military
service from WESTMONT, NEW JERSEY.
