IV — AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE: Under the provisions of AR 600-45, as amended, and pursuant to authority contained in letter 200.6 (AG) Headquarters XVIII Corps Airborne, dated 31 August 1944, the following named individuals are awarded the Bronze Star Medal: WALTER H. BARRETT, 34601026, Corporal, 508th Parachute Infantry. For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy for the period 14 September 1944 to 12 October 1944 in HOLLAND. Corporal BARRETT, Radio Operator, Company "B", on one occasion volunteered to lead a contact patrol whose mission was to establish communications with a vital roadblock. He successfully accomplished his mission. During the entire patrol the group was forced to travel along a route subjected to enemy mortar and small arms fire. Corporal BARRETT's entire service has been on a high plane. He has been a courageous, efficient soldier. Entered military service from WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA.
