 CERTIFICATE OF MERITis awarded to

	Gordon H. Cullings, 13158137, Private, 508th
Parachute Infantry.  For heroic conduct in action on the night of 17-19
September 1944, in NIJMEGEN, HOLLAND.  Private CULLINGS, medical aid
man, accompanying a platoon of Company "C" on night patrol through the town
of Nijmegen, was wounded as he was aiding a casualty.   Without
thought for himself, he continued to render first aid to other wounded
throughout the course of the patrol mission.  His unselfish actions
under heavy fire enabled several wounded men, who might otherwise been left
behind, to keep up with the patrol and be returned to safety.  When the
patrol had returned, and only then, did Private CULLINGS accept treatment
	for his own wounds.
