II — AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL:

Under the provisions of AR 600-45, as amended, and pursuant authority contained in letter 200.6 (AG) Headquarters XVIII Corps Airborne, dated 31 August 1944, and Circular No. 2, Headquarters First United States Army, dated 4 January 1945, the Bronze Star Medal is awarded to the following named individual:

WILLIAM A. DEAN, 13093223, Technician Fifth Grade, 508th Parachute Infantry for heroic conduct in action on 13 February 1945 near ***, GERMANY.  Technician Fifth Grade DEAN, Radio Operator, Company "B", led his company a night through a elaborate chain of shoe-mine fields laid by the enemy.  The company had been ordered to take the high ground dominating the River ROER but was held up after one man had bee killed and three ethers wounded.  Technician Fifth Grade DEAN voluntarily took the lead and with the aid of his radio relayed guiding messages back to the company. He was so successful in guiding the men that his heroic action enabled the ..(order copy cut off)
