When the companies
was ambushed by a group of approximately 65 to 70
enemy troops, Lt. Foley instantly placed his machine
guns to fire into the hedgerow. With a B.A.R.
Lt Foley walked down the center of the road, drawing
fire upon himself, and reducing th enemy hidden
behind the hedgerows as he advanced |

At the time of the
ambush, Ly. Foleys battalion was moving forward in
the attack on Hill 131, and the enemy staged the
ambush in an attempt at holding up and possibly
stopping the advance. |

As Lt Foley advanced
down the center of the road, the object of intense
enemy fire, he was able to direct the fire of his
men upon the enemy, and to personally account for
several of the enemy. |

As the result of Lt
Foleys immediate appraisal of the situation, and the
splendid couraged shown, which was an example to all
his men, his platoon killed eight and captured forty
the enemy without a single casualty. |
