ARTHUR E. GETTS, 38276110, Corporal, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 19 September 1944 near *** HOLLAND. Corporal GETTS, a machine gun squad leader, LMG platoon, Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, demonstrated great courage and resourcefulness when an enemy counter-attack threatened his position. While supporting the defense of the sector, an enemy attack approached the position occupied by Corporal GETTS and his machine gun squad. The machine gun section leader was killed and the section became disorganized. Corporal GETTS quickly took command of the situation and directed the fire of the section. His alert action enabled him to coordinate the fire of his guns and repulse the German efforts to penetrate his position. Entered service from EAGLETOWN, OKLAHOMA.
