			| SGT RAMIRO M. GONZALEZ BRONZE STAR MEDAL OLC WITH "V"
 |
			| For
heroism in ground combat in the Republic of  Vietnam on March
31, 1969. Sgt Gonzalez distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous
actions on March 31, 1959 while serving as a squad leader with the
first squad, third platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion. 508th Infantry
			in the Republic of Vietnam.
On the evening of March 31 1969, Sgt Gonzalez's squad was moving to
it's night ambush position when they were taken under fire by an
estimated squad of Viet Cong soldiers.  The barrage of enemy
fire was so intense that it completely pinned down the squad.
Realizing the imminent danger to his men, Sergeant Gonzalez moved
from his protection and began to place heavy suppressing fire
			on the enemy.
As he exposed himself, the enemy soldiers directed all of their
fire into his position.  Sergeant Gonzalez continued to place
heavy fire on the enemy until he fell mortally wounded.
As a result of his heroic actions, his squad was able to achieve
fire superiority over the enemy and rout the insurgents.
Sergeant Gonzalez's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in
keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and
reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
