GO 19. SECTION III, AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL
WINFRED
KECK, 15056724, Private, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct
in action on 30 September 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Private KECK was a
member of the Demolitions Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Company.
With two members from his platoon, he directed a detail in laying a
minefield while under heavy enemy artillery fire. Several times, when
near hits from artillery caused his detail to become disorganized. Private
KECK quickly restored control and caused the detail to resume its mission. At all times during this action, this area was subjected to heavy artillery
fire which caused four casualties. The minefield was successfully completed
and later proved an important obstacle in the path of enemy units attacking
positions along the regimental MLR. Entered military service from WEST
VIRGINIA. |
