GLENN F. SOMERVILLE, 35738784,
Sergeant, 508th Parachute Infantry. For meritorious service in connection
with military operations against the enemy for the period 17 September
to 10 November 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Sergeant SOMERVILLE, Mortar Section
Sergeant, Headquarters Company, First Battalion, performed his duties
in an exemplary manner. During the entire operations in The NETHERLANDS,
this non-commissioned officer was alert and energetic in the accomplishment
of all fire missions of this mortar section. He exposed himself to enemy
artillery and small arms fire in order to observe the fire of his guns
and directed his section in the prompt, accurate placing of mortar fire
in support of his battalion operations. His ceaseless efforts made of
his mortar section a closely coordinated team, highly dependable at
all times. The exemplary conduct of Sergeant SOMERVILLE enabled him
to render an important service to his battalion and to his regiment.
