II — AWARD OF. THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL

Under the provisions of AR 600-45, as amended, and pursuant authority contained in letter 200.6 (AG) Headquarters XVIII Corps Airborne, dated 31 August 1944, and Circular No. 2, Headquarters First United States Army, dated 4 January 1945, the Bronze Star Medal is awarded to the following named individual:

GEORGE I. STOECKERT, O-1287082, First Lieutenant, 508th Parachute Infantry. For meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy for the period 17 September 1944 to 10 November 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. First Lieutenant STOECKERT, Mortar Platoon Leader, Headquarters Company, First Battalion, performed his duties in a. superior manner under adverse combat conditions at all times. Immediately after the drop, he organized his mortar platoon and began such strict supervision over it that he encountered no casualties during the entire campaign. Day or night when mortar fire was called for, he either directed the fire from an observation pest or supervised the firing at the mortar positions. His devotion to and performance of duty had the admiration of all officers and enlisted men with whom he associated. Entered military service from LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK.
