PVT FRED G. TAYLOR
BRONZE STAR MEDAL AWARD

GO 19. SECTION IV, AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL

FRED G. TAYLOR, 36694173, Private, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 30 September 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Private TAYLOR was a member of the Demolition Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Company. With two demolitions men from his platoon he directed a detail in laying a minefield while under heavy enemy artillery fire.  Several times, near hits from artillery caused his detail to become disorganized, Private TAYLOR quickly restored control and cased the detail to resume its mission.  At all times during this action, this area was subjected to heavy artillery fire which caused four casualties.  The minefield was successfully completed and later proved an important obstacle in the path of enemy units attacking positions along the regimental MLR.  Entered military service from ILLINOIS.
