GO 19. SECTION IV, AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL
JAMES J. TURNER, 39043000,
Private, 508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 10
October 1944 near ***, HOLLAND. Private TURNER was a radio operator,
Headquarters Company, First Battalion. While on patrol he called for
and observed supporting artillery fire, which destroyed enemy machine
gun emplacements and permitted this patrol to continue upon its missions. When enemy machine gun fire suddenly fired upon the patrol and pinned
it to the ground, Private TURNER immediately radioed for artillery support. He remained in a position from which he could observe this fire, although
he was exposed to this artillery as well as fire of the enemy machine
guns. The patrol was able to bypass this enemy position and continue. Entered military service from SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
