SUPERIOR UNIT AWARD CITATION

In accordance with AR 600-8-22 (Military Awards), the Army Superior Unit Award (ASUA) was established by the Secretary of the Army to recognize outstanding meritorious performance of a unit during peacetime of a difficult and challenging mission under extraordinary circumstances. Circumstances may be deemed to be extraordinary when they do not represent the typical day-to-day circumstances under which the unit normally performs, or may reasonably be expected to perform during its peacetime mission.

Criteria: The Superior Unit Award is a decoration of the United States Army which is awarded in peacetime to any unit of the Army which displays outstanding meritorious performance of a difficult and challenging mission carried out under extraordinary circumstances.

General Orders:      The following is an excerpt from General Order 20, HQ Department of the Army, dated 30 August 1991

Citation:    By direction of the Secretary of the Army, under AR 672-5-1, paragraph 9-28.1, The Army Superior Unit award is awarded to the following units of the Armed Forces of the United States for meritorious service in connection with difficult and challenging missions during peacetime.

1ST BATTALION (AIRBORNE), 508TH INFANTRY
1 February 1990 to 31 December 1990
