Corp Edwin Luczaj, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael LuczaJ of Oakdale, returned to Camp
Mackall, North Carolina, Monday night after spending a 10-day furlough with his parents.
He is a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Corp Luczaj's picture appeared in
The Journal about three weeks ago. He has also been awarded a good conduct medal.
He enlisted in the army May 9, 1942 and was in the artillery until September 1942 when he transferred to
the paratroops/ When asked Just why he Joined the paratroops Corp LuczaJ said he actually
couldn't answer that question because he really didn't know unless it was for the thrills. He said they have three weeks training before they
jump from a plane. On the fourth week they receive their wings after making five
jumps.
Corp Luczaj has 12 Jumps to his credit, his brother, Sgt Raymond
Luczaj. Is also a paratrooper and he went overseas In April.. It Is highly probable that he was with the paratroops which landed in Sicily as the last word they received from
him was from Africa.
Corp Luczaj' is 21 years old. Incidentally, ha said they are still
accepting volunteers.
