Bell of Colora Gets Legion of Merit
ELKTON,
Md., Oct 2 --- (Special) --- Maj. Alton L. Bell of Colora, attached
to the 508th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, has been
awarded the Legion of Merit. He is now serving with the
occupation forces in Germany. Major Bell holds five battle
stars, besides the Legion of Merit. He entered the service
during October, 1941, as a second lieutenant, having received his
commission upon graduation from the University of Maine. He
has been overseas since December 1943. and saw action in Normandy,
Southern France, Holland and the Ardennes Sector.
He had the honor of commanding the honor guard battalion for
President Truman when the latter visited General Eisenhower in
Frankford, [sic] Germany.
