paratrooper, wins honors
Sgt Ronald H. Armour, one of the
comparatively small number of paratroopers who dropped down on the
Cherbourg peninsula six hours ahead of the main invasions forces June 5,
was recently awarded the purple heart, president's citation and a combat
infantry medal, according to a letter received by his wife at 4600 No.
14th.
Sergeant Armour, formerly of New Jersey, entered the service as a
member of the 508th parachute infantry nearly two and a half years ago.
Wounded in action June 8, he was taken off the French battlefield and
returned to duty with his regiment a few weeks later.

Wins Purple Heart
Sgt Ronald H. Armour, husband of Mrs. Donna
Belle Alfrey, 2734 South Tenth street, has received the former Katherine
Bowers, daughter of Mrs. B. A. Bowers, 4600 North Fourteenth street, has
been awarded the purple heart with a presidential citation and the
combat infantry medal for his bravery in the invasion of France as a
paratrooper. A member of the 508th parachute infantry, he
went over in the first wave the night of June 5 and early morning of
June 5, and was wounded June 8 with a bullet in the leg.
His wife received word Thursday of the award and that he had
recovered sufficiently to get back into the battle in France.
Sergeant Armour is a graduate of Notre Dame University. He
was married to Miss Bowers at an east coast camp but a short time before
his assignment overseas.
