Purple
Heart Been
Received by Parents
Mr. and Mrs. David Miller last week received
the Purple Heart and government citation as a post-humous award to their
son, David, who was injured in action on June 13 and who died in battle
a few days later.
David was a member of the paratroopers who landed behind the German
lines during the Normandy invasion. He received a wound from a gun
and was taken to a field hospital. However he returned to his
outfit, still carrying the bullet and was killed on the battlefront.
This information was received by Mr. and Mrs.. Miller from Jim Miller*,
a pal of David's, who wrote giving a few details.
The friend said, "You can always be proud of the memory of David.
Besides being a good man he was a brave one. At the time he was
killed he already had the Purple Heart for a bullet wound in the leg
that he had gotten on the 13th of June. He was sent back to the
hospital, but he left the hospital, still carrying the bullet, in order
to return to his outfit. That takes guts and a deep love for
country. I was with Davis when he died on the battlefield."

[*Jumpmaster Note: the reference to Jim Miller probably
referred to James H. Miller, also of Company F. While they shared
the same surname, they apparently were not related]
