Four Widows Receive Military Awards
Three Tampans and a Brooksville man who died in fighting in the Dominican Republic and Viet Nam, were posthumously honored at the Army Reserve Center Sunday.
Widows of the four accepted the awards in the presence of immediate members of the families of the men,
Medals were awarded to Sp.3 Erich Simkiatis, 1407 Bougenvillia, Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters and an eighth with the, "V" device, and Purple
Heart. He died in Viet Nam while serving with the 101st Aviation Battalion.
Sgt. Mack E. Cox, 4218 E. Bird, Purple Heart for giving his life in action with Co. B. 1st Battalion, 5th Calvary, 1st Cavalry Division, In Viet Nam.
SP,4 Kenneth E. R. Burch, Brooksville, Purple Heart for giving his life in Viet Nam while serving with Co. B, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division.
Sgt. Lavanda Coleman, 1911 St. Conrad, Silver Star for helping restore order and
democracy in the Dominican Republic. He previously had been awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. |
