 SANTA MARIA, Jan 9--The War Department 
			Tuesday announced the award posthumously of the Silver Star to Corporal 
			Bryant DeLoach of Santa Maria.The young paratrooper, who was killed in action in France last summer 
			is survived by his widow, the former Lois Bright of Santa Maria, his 
			parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. DeLoach, a brother, Pfc Wells DeLoach, who 
			is overseas, and his grandmother, Mrs. Florence Stafstrom of Santa Maria.
 He was a former president of the student body of Santa Maria High school 
			and entered the service in October of 1942.

			May 1945 letter from Major General J. A. Ulio, the Adjutant General, 
			advises Lois DeLoach that her husband has been awarded the Silver 
			Star "For gallantry in action in Normandy, France on 4 July 1944".  
			The decoration is to be forwarded to Fort Douglas, Utah for further 
			handling.

			June 1945 letter from Major General W. E. Shedd, Fort Douglas, Utah who is, in 
			turn, contacting the Commanding Officer, Camp Cooke in Lompoc, 
			California to arrange presentation of the award.

			| California infantrymen in the airborne divisions, awarded the Silver 
			Star for gallantry in action in Normandy, France, the War Department 
			said today, included:
 Posthumous award went to Cpl. Bryant C. DeLoach, (parachute) whose 
			widow Lois lives at 616 South Lincoln Street, Santa Maria.  He 
			was reported killed in action July 4.
 
 |  SILVER STAR MEDAL 
			is 
			presented to Mrs. Lois B. DeLoach, Santa Maria, by Maj D. L. Turpin, 
			post adjutant.  Mrs. DeLoach's husband, Cpl Bryant C. DeLoach, 
			received the posthumous award following his death in Normandy, 
			France, on July 4, 1944, while he was serving with a parachute 
			infantry unit of the 82nd Airborne Div.   The award was 
			made Monday afternoon at Ms. DeLoach's home upon her request for an 
			informal ceremony with a minimum of publicity.
