| CITATION: GO 10, 24 January 1945 (pages 3)
ROBERT W. HUPP, 35624589, Technician Fifth Grade, 508th Parachute Infantry.
For gallantry in action on 18 September, 1944, near ***,
HOLLAND.   When his radio failed, Technician Fifth Grade
HUPP -- a radio operator -- voluntarily assumed the responsibilities
of a squad leader in his company's assault to clear glider landing
fields.  After the gliders landed, three enemy flak guns 200
yards forward of his lines opened fire.  Technician Fifth Grade
HUPP took three men and advanced to assault those weapons.
With great skill and determination, he deployed his small group and
successfully drove off the supporting enemy riflemen.  The four
men then attacked the positions with accurate overlapping rifle fire
under cover of which they moved forward to grenade range and killed
many of the gun crews and forced the rest to surrender.  The
initiative, courage and example set by Technician Fifth Grade HUPP
inspired the small group to heroic action which insured the security
of the glider landings.  His conduct was in keeping with the
high traditions of the airborne Forces of the United States Army.  Entered military service from
			COLUMBUS, OHIO. |
