	HOMER H. JONES, O461025, First Lieutenant, 508th Parachute Infantry.  For gallantry in 
	action on 6 June 1944 near ***, FRANCE.  First Lieutenant JONES, 
	Platoon Leader, assumed command of a small provisional company of 
	paratroopers near ***. He was called upon to clear a strongpoint controlling 
	the approaches to a causeway over the MERDERET River.  Leading his men, 
	First Lieutenant JONES' group under his aggressive leadership, killed eight 
	Germans, captured seventeen prisoners and succeeded in the eliminating the 
	strongpoint. He then led an assault which seized the bridge and established 
	a foothold on the opposite bank until forced to withdraw in the face of 
	overwhelming odds,  His gallant actions were instrumental in confining 
	the enemy west of the MERDERET River, .  Entered military service from 
	NORCROSS, GEORGIA.
