PFC DANIEL E. KUSZMAUL
For Gallantry In Action - 10 September 1944

CITATION: GO 35, 20 February 1945 (page 2) - Posthumous Award

DANIEL E. KUSZMAUL, 35345415, Private First Class, 508th Parachute Infantry. For gallantry in action on 19 September, 1944, near ***, GERMANY.   Private First Class KUSZMAUL was an assistant squad leader, Company "G".  While on a reconnaissance patrol with his platoon investigating Hill ***, he discovered an enemy machine gun emplacement which had pinned his platoon to the ground.  Private First Class KUSZMAUL, after discovering the gun position, began to move towards it though he was still under fire.  He managed to crawl within a few yards of the position to where he could attack.  With two fragmentation grenades he assaulted and charged the machine gun position firing his TSMG, and disabled or destroyed the crew.  Private First Class KUSZMAUL was fatally wounded in this action but this courageous and heroic act allowed his patrol to continue on its mission.  Entered military service from OHIO.
