Pvt Moskalski,
Assistant Light Machine Gunner, Co "A", 508 Prcht
Inf took over the weapon when the machine gunner was
injured. |
g. |
For over twenty four
hours his position was the focal point of enemy fire
in their effort to penetrate our lines. |
h. |
When some of the
enemy infiltrated and grenaded his position he held
his fire till the enemy was ten yards or less away,
then dispatched them, killing two of the enemy.
Mortar and automatic weapons fire was then placed on
his position by the enemy, but all night long he
returned all fire and held his position.
The following day enemy tanks lay
direct fire on his position from a distance of three
hundred and fifty yards. Failing in that
manner to dislodge him, his position was strafed,
and bombed by enemy planes. He and his weapon
was completely covered by dirt and debris when
bombed, but crawling clear he pulled his weapon out,
cleaned it, and set it in the bomb crater, fighting
from that position.
Pvt Moskalski definitely killed
nine of the enemy during this period and probably
more. |
