			| THEODORE Q. SVENDSEN, 39182930,
Corporal, 508th Parachute Infantry. For gallantry in action on 6 June 1944 near *** France.  At daylight,
Corporal SVENDSEN, concealed along the south bank of the MERDERET River,
inflicted many casualties on the enemy by placing sniping fire on German
troops holding the causeway.  During the latter part of the day,
when our forces attacked the bridge, Corporal SVENDSEN moved to a position
on the flank, and brought effective fire upon enemy reinforcements who
were attempting to reach the bridge.  He was again responsible
for numerous casualties and was instrumental in our success against
this well-fortified enemy position. After joining his unit at ***, he
acted with marked aggressiveness and courage and forced the withdrawal
of an enemy machine gun which was holding up our advance.  This
unselfish action cost Corporal SVENDSEN his life, but insured the success
of his company in reaching its objective.  His gallant determination
at all times was a credit to the Airborne Forces of the United States
Army.  Entered military service from TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
