AWARD OF THE SILVER STAR MEDAL TO
1ST SGT FRANK C. TAYLOR
For Gallantry In Action - 6 June 1944

FRANK C. TAYLOR, 16075582, First Sergeant, 508th Parachute Infantry.  For gallantry in action on 13 June 1944 near ***, FRANCE.  First Sergeant TAYLOR (then Sergeant), singlehanded, destroyed an enemy tank which was holding up the advance of his company.  About one mile from the town of ***, the company encountered six tanks.  They were able to neutralize five of the tanks, but the sixth continued firing.  First Sergeant TAYLOR worked his way six-hundred yards to his company's front, to the tank position and hurled a grenade inside; however, at this point the tank exploded, hurling him across the road.  This gallant and courageous deed by First Sergeant TAYLOR enabled his company to accomplish its mission with a minimum of casualties.  Entered military service from DECATUR, ILLINOIS.
