AWARD OF THE SILVER STAR
TO PFC VICTOR C. WALSH
For Gallantry In Action 27 December 1944

GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 32 (March 12, 1945)

CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Victor C. Walsh (ASN: 39029923), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 26 - 27 December 1944, near ****, Belgium.

Private First Class Walsh, Machine Gunner, Company G, 3d Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, remained in his position after the balance of his squad had withdrawn during an attack by a force of enemy estimated at two battalions.

When the enemy overran the positions, Private First Class Walsh withdrew to rejoin his squad. Unable to contact them, Private First Class Walsh returned to his previous position and continued fighting. His extremely effective fire hampered the attacking Germans causing them heavy casualties. Private First Class Walsh continued firing, although surrounded by the enemy, until he ran out of ammunition. In attempting to fight his way back to his lines, Private First Class Walsh was wounded. His actions reflect great credit upon himself and upon the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
