SITREPS 508/1

22-28 MAY 2016

GOOD NEWS STORIES OF THE WEEK:

Panther of the Week: SGT Stefan Martens is a Sniper Team Leader with HHC, 1-508PIR. He was selected as the team captain for the 1-508 PIR Small Arms Championship team during All American Week. Through his mentorship the team took first place in team rifle events and placed third overall in the Division. Additionally, SGT Martens took first place in the division in the overall individual event, first in individual multi-gun event, and third in individual rifle event. SGT Martens is a shining example of the dedication and capability of the NCO corps and has represented the company and battalion remarkably over the last week.

- 1-508 PIR added seven new Jumpmasters to our ranks following PWAC this week.

THIS WEEK:

1-508 PIR participated in All American Week events and placed third in both the LGOP and Small Arms competition. We welcomed four Gold Star Families this week (Riley Family, Bell Family, Sitton Family, and Lovejoy Family) and had the pleasure of escorting them to the Regimental Picnic, Heroes Luncheon, Division Memorial Ceremony, and Airborne Review. [More on GSF involvement below].

NEXT WEEK:

LTC Reese and CSM Lawrence will fly to Normandy. Command teams who have not attended prior will attend the 18th Airborne Corps Pre-command course. The battalion staff will begin MDMP with receipt of the BDE WARNORD 3 and continue preparation for the airborne operation on 4 June and the FTX at the end of June. We will also conduct Pay Day Activities with company runs, in-ranks inspections, barracks inspections, a battalion awards ceremony, and pinning five new Infantry officers with 508th regimental crossed rifles. Lastly, we are prepared to receive our first two CTLT cadets next week, who will immediately assume positions as Platoon Leaders in HHC and C Co.

 AIRBORNE OPERATIONS:

By the end of All American Week, 1-508 PIR will have exited 148 Paratroopers across 4 x lines (last Saturday's SPJP, Monday's LGOP Competition, Tuesday's line in conjunction with PWAC, and the ABN Review).

LEADER DEVELOPMENT: 1-508 PIR added seven new Jumpmasters to our ranks following their successful completion of PWAC on 24-25 May. We will send 2 Paratroopers to the 31 May Jumpmaster Course. We have six Paratroopers currently in Ranger School (4 x Darby, 2 x Mountains), one Paratrooper in Sniper School, and one Paratrooper in RSLC.

BUILD READY AND RESILIENT PARATROOPERS AND FAMILIES: 1-508 PIR honored our Gold Star Families this week by presenting them plaques dedicated to their fallen Paratrooper [storyboard attached]. Company FRGs participated in multiple fundraising events this week, including the LGOP competition and Airborne Review. Lastly, 22 Paratroopers from B Co traveled to San Antonio to participate in SGT Aguilar's funeral and show their support for his grieving family. We will conduct SGT Aguilar's memorial ceremony at 1530 on 8 June.
