4. Communication.
The battalion S6 section, in conjunction with the NWFI FSRs, have
conducted a COMMEX that included a series of radios and ATAK EUD
upgrades in preparation for Swift Response 2018. Major highlights
include the IMBITR software upgrade to version 6.0, providing faster
boot time and the integration of the TAC app functions into ATAK.
The TAC app and ATAK integration allow the ATAK software to be a
one-stop center for the Unit COP, situational awareness, changing
voice net, volume control, and monitoring battery life. The COMMEX
also included a class for paratroopers who recently arrived at the
unit, those who have never used the network and those that needed
refresher training. The COMMEX ended with a beyond line of site
COMMEX with 2CR, and 1-73rd; sharing COP, video feeds and chat
messages.

COMMEX to test unit Communication readiness. The battalion finished
#1 in the brigade with 63 FMC JBC-P systems.
5. Small Unit Tactics.
C/1-508 PIR conducted troop leading procedures from 7-9 May 2018,
with emphasis on platoon operations orders. This gave Paratroopers
the ability to do deliberate planning and train the importance of
terrain and enemy analysis. During STX lanes, platoons conducted
patrolling, occupation of an ORP, and established a deliberate
ambush. Following actions on the objective platoons were forced to
conduct hasty reconsolidation and organization off of the ambush
site, and conducted react to contact. Platoon STX culminated in a 12
mile ruck back from Area R.
6. Mastery of Maintenance.
The Maintenance Platoon conducted scheduled and unscheduled
maintenance while supporting company taskings. Over the past two
weeks, scheduled services have included sixteen pieces of rolling
stock, BN semi-annual pro mask services, one company of quarterly
weapons services, annual Carl G gauging, and one company of
quarterly night vision device services. As the 1-508 gears up for
All American Week and Swift Response, the Maintenance Platoon will
continue to aid the companies as needed. As of now, the Maintenance
Platoon will be sending a small contingent of maintainers to Swift
Response in order to provide small-arms repair and vehicle
inspections. The Maintenance Platoon will continue to perform
scheduled services to include: CROWS annual services, one companies
worth of quarterly weapons services, one company of night vision
device services, and fourteen pieces of rolling stock services.
