WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE SQUAD LEADER OF THE YEAR?

Conducting the Rock Merritt Squad Leader of the Year Competition.

During this event Squad Leaders from across the Battalion begin in full duty uniform and conduct as many  repetitions of 200 lb. dead lifts as they can in the gymnasium weight room.

They then move outside the gym and throw a 10 lb, medicine ball over their head, sprint to the ball, and conduct 5x hand release push-ups for approximately 400 meters.

After returning from the ball throw they mount the pull-up bar and do as many knee tucks as they can.

Upon completion of these physical events they put on their body armor, helmet, and secure their weapon to run 2 miles to Range 1.

Immediately upon arrival at Range 1, they shoot a table from the Integrated Weapons Training Strategy (Army’s new marksmanship program of record) before running the 2 miles back to Fury Pond.

At Fury Pond they complete the sprint-drag-carry, which consists of:

- 50m sprint,
- 50m 90lbs sled drag,
- 50m side shuffle
- 50m farmer kettle bell farmer carry with 40lbs..
- 50m sprint,
- evaluating and treating a casualty and reporting a 9 line MEDEVAC.
