Robert Kiley - HQ 2nd

Robert Francis Kiley was a member of the 81 mm mortar platoon when he jumped into Normandy in the early hours of D-DAY 6th June 1944.

Things did not go well for Robert as he was captured by the Germans that same day.

Robert Kiley endured the hardships of being of being a P.O.W. during the remaining years of the war.

After being released from captivity he was returned to the United States.

Despite receiving treatment for acute infectious hepatitis, which was the result of his captivity in a German P.O.W. camp, Robert Kiley died on June 12th 1946.

He survived the Normandy invasion by just 2 years and 6 days.
