Kiley was a member of the 81 mm mortar platoon when he jumped into
Normandy in the early hours of D-DAY 6th June 1944.
Things did not go
well for Robert as he was captured by the Germans that same day.
endured the hardships of being of being a P.O.W. during the remaining
years of the war.
released from captivity he was returned to the United States.
treatment for acute infectious hepatitis, which was the result of his
captivity in a German P.O.W. camp, Robert Kiley died on June 12th
He survived the
Normandy invasion by just 2 years and 6 days.
