Grave marker for John O. Adams in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside (Riverside county), California.

John submitted this application for the Iowa WWII Veterans Bonus program on 4 May 1949,

He was credited with 54 months of domestic duty and awarded the full $500 bonus.

That calculation, however seems to have en a short cut as it is clearly shown that he was overseas from 15 April 1943 to 14 Novembr3 1944 and again from 5 April 1945 to 21 December 1945.  In fact, based on stated enlistment (1 Oct 1941) and separation (12 December 1945) dates, it appears that he served only 51 months in total.

Note also, his stated birth date of 11 April 1919 is contradicted by the appearance of 11 April 1920 on the grave marker.
