IGNACIO G. ALANIZ

Ignacio George Alaniz, lovingly known as "Grandpa" to all of his friends passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his home in Phoenix, AZ.
   He was born on May 9, 1924 in Crandall, TX to Ignacio Sr. and Maria (Armendariz) Alaniz. Ignacio married Matilde "Tillie" Ramirez on January 31, 1942.
   Ignacio was predeceased by his brothers Alonzo and Larry; his sisters Mary and Frances and his son Michael.
   He is survived by his brother Angel Alaniz, his children, Jennie, MaryHelen, Carlotta, Rebecca, Lucy, Anthony, Berlinda, Gema, Edward and Darrell.
   Ignacio was a WWII Veteran in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1949
  . Graveside services will be held on Fri day, September 29, 2017 at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Arizona at 12:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the American Legion Post #41, 715 S. 2nd Ave., Phoenix, AZ

Grave marker for Ignacio G. Alaniz in Section, C 55, Site 1144,  National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix (Maricopa county), Arizona.

Pvt Alaniz was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to Hq 3td, 508th PIR on 10 August 1944.

Pfc Alaniz re-enlisted on 10 November 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.
