WILLIAM J. ANKLEY

Grave marker for William J. Ankley in Section 60, Grave 5335, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington (Arlington county), Virginia.

William enlisted in the Army on 4 November 1942 and signed up again on 4 November 1946 but was discharged on 1 December 1946 to accept a commission the following day as a 2nd Lt.

1st Lt Ankley participated in the Operation Longhorn exercises and was mentioned in the  Brownwood Bulletin, Brownwood, TX, edition on Monday, 7 Apr 1952 as "a veteran of nine years in the Army with 232 jumps, he carried film for his camera in a pocket and found it had been squashed from the landing impact".

On 13 June 1952, transferred from 508th Airborne to USA Forces Antilles, San Juan, PR.

He retired from the Army as a full Colonel.
