JR APPLE

Grave marker for JR Apple in the Garden of Christus, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth (Tarrant county), Texas.

JR enlisted in the Army at Dallas, TX on 12 December 1942.  Following the completion of jump school was transferred to the medical Detachment, 508th PIR on 28 April 1943.

JR made the jump into Normandy with Company H on D-Day and was briefly reported as missing in action.  Following the Normandy campaign he was appointed to the grade of Tec 5 on 23 July 1944.

T5 Apple was wounded in action in Belgium on 26 January 1945 and was evacuated to a field hospital and did not return to the regiment.  He was discharged on 3 November 1945.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
