EDDIE E. ARMIJO

U.S. Army Veteran

Eddie E. Armijo age 76 passed away on February 9, 2008 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO.
   He was born August 11, 1931 in Ocate, N.M. He was preceded in death by his Mother Efrosina Martinez, his Father Jose Armijo, Brother Carlos Armijo and Step Grand-Daughter Tonya Esquibel.
   He is survived by his wife, Bertha Armijo of Springer, New Mexico Brother Joe and Ida of Pueblo, Colorado, Elsie Goff and Sons of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Josie and Francis Salazar of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Cecilia Armijo of Springer, New Mexico his Children Ronnie Armijo of Espanola, New Mexico, Patricia and Ernie Chavez of Thornton, Colorado and ,Sam and Jan Armijo of Thornton, Colorado, Felicia and Tony Esquibel of Roy, New Mexico, Theresa and Antonio Arellano of Aurora, Colorado; 4 grandchildren: Jessica Chavez, Franchesca Martinez, Brian Armijo, and Craig Armijo, Step Grand-daughter Victoria Esquibel: 5 Great Grandchildren: Abbie Armijo, Kenneth Armijo, Samuel Thames, Isaac Martinez, and Hope Martinez and also to include additional Step Great Grand Children of the Denver Metro in Colorado.
    He served 21 years in the United States Army, with the 101st Airborne Rangers. In 1968 and 1969 he was in the Vietnam War and served as a Dog Handler with the 42nd Scout Dog Platoon.. During his 21 years of duty he was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA, Japan, Ft. Campbell, KY, Bangkok, Thailand, Ft. Carson, CO, Minneapolis, MN, Lima, Peru, and Nashville, AR.
   He was awarded numerous Army Commendation Medals, The Bronze Star Medal, and The Purple Heart.
   He was also a Lifetime member of the Century Club which was considered the Master Parachutist. He completed more than 100 parachute jumps with U.S. Airborne Forces; he was entitled to wear the Gold Master Parachute Wing.
   Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday February 14 at 9:30 in the morning at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 O’clock. Rite of Committal and Interment will take place Friday February 15th at 9:30 in the morning at the Santa Fe, National Cemetery. Arrangements for Eddie E. Armijo are under the direction of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.

Eddie enlisted in the Army on 19 January 1951.

On 5/14/1956 SFC Armijo arrived at Travis Air Force Base, CA with his wife, Theresa R. and son Ronnie E on a MATS Charter flight, Pan Am World Airways (flight PAA #941) from Hickham Air Force Base, Honolulu, HI.  The flight originated in Tokyo, Japan.

Eddie was traveling under a civilian passport on 29 September 1958 on a flight departing Honolulu. The destination is unknown.

Eddie retired from the Army on 31 January 1971.

Eddie served 21 years in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Rangers and the 82nd Airborne Division's 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. In 1968 and 1969, he was in the Vietnam War and served as a dog handler with the 42nd Dog Scout Platoon.
    During his 21 years of duty he was stationed in Fort Benning, GA; Kumamoto, Japan, Ft. Campbell, KY; Bangkok, Thailand; Fort Carson, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Lima, Peru and Nashville, AR.
   He was awarded numerous Army Commendation medals, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. He completed more than 100 parachute jumps with the U.S. Airborne Forces and was entitled to wear the gold Master Parachute wing and was a lifetime member of the Century Club.
