HERMAN E. ARNOLD


Herman E. Arnold, 83, Bluffton, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
   Born June 10, 1925 in Bluffton to Samuel E. and Bernice (Hurbst) Arnold, he married the former Lillian E. Steffen July 21, 1944 in Bluffton. She survives.
   He was a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Unit in World War II, serving from 1944 to 1946, concluding service as a corporal.
   He retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company after 35 years of service and was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and Epworth United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee.
   In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis (Janice) Arnold of Fort Wayne, a daughter Linda (Larry) Tucker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Markley, Bluffton, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A son, Steven E. Arnold, preceded him in death.
   Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday will be at Goodwin Memorial Chapel under the direction of Rev. Dick Frederick. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery near Vera Cruz. The American Legion will be providing graveside military rites. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
    Memorials may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund.
