MERREL E. ARTHUR

Grave marker for Merrel E. Arthur in Saint Therese's Cemetery, Newcomb (Essex county ), New York.

Merrel enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 9 November 1943.l

After completion of basic training and jump school Pvt Arthur was shipped to England.  He was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to Company C, 508th PIR on 10 August 1944.

A month later Pvt Arthur participated in the Holland jump on 17 September.

Merrel was appointed to Pfc on 22 January 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations as well as the Good Conduct Medal.
