FRANKLIN D. ASHWORTH

Rev. Franklin D. Ashworth, 82, of the Evergreen Hills community, Cottageville, WV, passed away November 28, 2016, in the Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, following an extended illness.

He was born, March 4, 1934, in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Howard Harmon Ashworth, Sr. and the late Anna Dora (Parsons) Ashworth. His son, John David Ashworth; brother, Howard “Shorty” Ashworth, Jr. and sister, Louise Utt also preceded him in death.

Frank was United States Army veteran and served with the 82nd Airborne. He was a graduate of Beckley Bible College and was a minister of the Gospel. He had been pastor of several area churches: Pine Grove Church, Leon, WV, Faith Assembly of God, Ripley, WV, and was co-founder and assistant pastor of Open Bible Church, Ripley.

He was a retired crane operator and later, a furnace operator from Century Aluminum with 32 years of service and was a member of United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668. He was also a member of the VFW Post #3488 and the American Legion Post #107, where he was an active member of the burial detail for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret (Anderson) Ashworth; sons, Terry Ashworth (Mary), Tony Ashworth (Patty) and James Ashworth all of Cottageville; grandchildren, Amanda Ashworth, James Elswick, Jon Ashworth, Charity Ashworth, Ashley Ashworth, Brandi Somerville (Nathan), Steven Ashworth and Michaela Randolph; great grandchildren, Jeremy Harmon, Olivia Ashworth, Jayden Harmon, Addison Enoch, Natalee Somerville and Jackson Hill; brother, Clifford Ashworth of Charleston and sister, Dorothy “Dot” Adkins of Davisville.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with Pastor Jeff Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville, with military honors provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard.
