HENRY B. ATKINSON

COLUMBUS, GA— Mr. Henry Bevel Atkinson, age 84, of Columbus, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at The Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary's Macon Road Chapel with burial to follow in Riverdale Cemetery. The Reverend Gene Boyd will officiate. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mr. Atkinson was born September 13, 1921 in Franklin, GA the son of Henry Potter and Della Jackson Atkinson. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army for over 20 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Atkinson was a member of Cascade Hills Church. Mr. Atkinson was the widower of the late Ada Louella Atkinson and is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Chunn and her husband, Lawrence, of Phenix City, AL; a son, Jimmy Atkinson and his wife, Jo, of Lee County, AL; a step daughter, Faye Delay of Columbus; 2 step sons, Robert Reddish of Columbus, and Edward Reddish and his wife, Jan, of Winder, GA.

Grave marker for Henry B. Atkinson in Section 11 of the Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus (Muscogee County), Georgia.

Henry was a member of Company D, 508th PIR and was awarded the CIB (Combat Infantryman Badge)  for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.
