JOHN W. AUGER

Grave marker for John W. Auger in Plot 3A, Site 299 in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale (Suffolk county), New York.

Jo9hn enlisted in the Army at Jamaica, NY on 14 March 1941.  He probably was transferred to Service Company in 1942, a period in which that company's records are unavailable.

On 17 July 1943 he was promoted to the grade of T/5 and just 6 weeks later, on 30 August, was appointed to T/4.

He must have been a stand-out soldier as on 18 December 1943 he was promoted to SSgt..

SSgt Auger made the jump into Normandy and may have fought in Holland.  He was wounded ln action in Belgium on 3 January 1945.

SSgt Auger was discharged on 18 October `1945..  His military decorations include the Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Service Arrowhead device which was awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
